NZU Blues Award
The 2008 NZU Blues Awards Ceremony will be held Friday 27 June at the North Harbour Stadium, Auckland. The Ceremony will see 50 NZU Blue recipients awarded for their sporting achievements in 2007. Also to be awarded on the night is the NZU Distinguished Performance Award, the NZU Coaching Award, recipients of the inaugural Domino's Pizza Scholarships and the announcement of the two supreme awards - the NZU Maori Sportsperson of the Year and NZU Sportsperson of the Year for 2007.
The keynote speaker this year is Danyon Loader, Olympic gold-medal swimmer. In addition swimmer Melissa Ingram will be speaking of her medal winning experiences at the 2007 World University Games in Bangkok, who will also be representing New Zealand at the upcoming Beijing Olympics.

Uni Games 2008
The 2008 Uni Games was held in Rotorua from14-17 April. Team Victoria took home the Shield with Auckland University just tailing behind by 17 points with AUT in third place. Massey Auckland won the small campus shield. The Games also saw teams from Waiariki, Unitec, EIT, Otago Polytechnic, Te Wananga o Aotearoa compete for the first time along with Monash and Macquarie from Australia.
USNZ would like to thank all of the students, team managers, competition managers, officials, volunteers, supporters, sponsors and the Rotorua community assisting us in delivering another successful event.
The Taranaki region has been awarded the 2009 Uni Games that will be held 14-17 April 2009.

Uni Championships
- 2008 Domino's Pizza Uni Cricket Champs - Men's
The Uni Cricket Champs was held in Palmerston North from 2-6 March. Victoria University Men's batted their way to victory, defeating AUT, Auckland and Massey Palmerston North.
- 2008 Uni Triathlon Champs
The second annual Uni Triathlon Champs was held as part of the Wellington round of the Triathlon NZ National Series on 9 March 2008. George Stirling (Canterbury University) and Tracey Steens (University of Auckland) emerged as champions to beat their peers in their respective catergories.

2008 Domino's Pizza Uni Rowing Champs
Otago University with its 80-strong crew once again retained possession of the coveted Ashes Trophy when crews battled it out on Lake Karapiro, 19 April. Victoria settled for second, with Canterbury coming close behind.

Domino's Pizza
Domino's Pizza has joined forces with USNZ to help promote and support our events. Domino's Pizza provided the Uni Games with a 'Chil Out Zone' where students enjoyed free pizza, entertainment and the highly competitive 'rock, paper, scissors' championships.
ZM
ZM will be the voice of university sport on the airwaves over the next few years. ZM will be incharge of be helping USNZ rock our events. ZM broadcast the Uni Games closing ceremony live on the night show, helped us find volunteers and promoted the event.
USNZ is grateful for the generous support of both Domino's Pizza and ZM and look forward to working with them.

- Golf - Sun City, South Africa (2-5 Sept)
- Rowing - Belgrade, Serbia (5-7 Sept)
- White Water Slalom - Bratislava, Slovakia (19-21 Sept)
- Water Skiing - Tianjin, China (1-5 Oct)

The 2009 World University Games will be held in Belgrade, Serbia from 1-12 July. Planning is now underway for the New Zealand delegation to attend.
The 2009 World University Winter Games (Winter Universiade) will be held in Harbin, China in February 2009. Michael Forrestal, on his 3rd appointment as Chef de Mission, will be present at the 2008 Uni Snow Games to promote and discuss selection of the NZ Team.

Vacancy - WUG 09 Chef de Mission
With the upcoming 2009 World University Games to be held in Belgrade, Serbia in July next year, USNZ is calling for applications for the role of Chef de Mission to lead the team in representing New Zealand at the world's second largest multisport event.

Staffing Update
USNZ welcomes Jessica Baldwin (National Events Manager) and Pip Gueorgieff (Events Coordinator) as the new events team for the organisation. Both Jess and Pip started in February 2008 and successfully delivered the 2008 Uni Games in Rotorua.
Jessica has had invovlement with USNZ through competing, managing and running events and teams both at Otago and AUT University. She was previously the Sports Coordinator for the Auckland Student Movement (AuSM). Pip has been appointed in this new role with previous experiences with Manawatu Rugby Union and Cricket Wellington.
Arsel Aslam, previous National Development Manager, had been appointed Business Development Manager in January 2008 - a new role created within USNZ to focus on the growing organisation.
David Pearce has resigned as USNZ Executive Director. During this interim period, Hamish Hopkinson has been appointed as the Acting Executive Director while USNZ begins the process of finding a replacement for the role. USNZ would like to thank David for his contribution to USNZ and wishes him all the best for the future.

Tertiary Snow Bash, Ruapehu (30 June - 1 July) - A two day fun snow event. Get some practice in for Wanaka. Please note that this event is weather dependent.
Domino's Pizza Northern Tertiary Challenge, Waitakere Stadium
(8 August) - A one day competition of social sport for campuses in the upper North Island.
Domino's Pizza Central Tertiary Challenge, Palmerston North
(8 August) - A one day competition of social sport for for campuses in the lower North Island.
Uni Snow Games, Wanaka (23-29 August) - The annual Snow Games has the cheapest and best week of snow competion around. This year there will be selections for the World Winter University Games held in Harbin in February 2009.
